Archives for March 2017
Formed in 2013, for a one-off gig, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (JRad) has transformed into a full-on touring band. Joe Russo, former drummer of Further, sits front and center in the band. Together with Dave Dreiwitz (from Ween), Marco Benevento, Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, they play the most upbeat rock n’ roll Grateful Dead I have ever seen.
Forget space Dead or bluegrass Dead this is funky -party-rock n’ roll-dead. Totally different from any other Dead cover band you have ever seen. What is most impressive about JRad is their ability to seamless blend and jam both Dead and other covers songs from Phish, ABB, Zeppelin and more. During a show in January, the band debuted their first original song.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is currently on tour – check out tour dates here. I am so excited to see them at the end of April for their first Red Rocks show. Follow me on Instagram and Snapchat for live shots from the shows.
If it’s your first trip to San Fran, you probably already have a laundry list of touristy places to visit. And you should! Fisherman’s Wharf, Lombard Street and Alcatraz are all really worth the trip. But if looking for something a little more local read on…
Live Like a Local
Wake up early and start your day with a walk or hike around the Presidio. Originally built-in 1776, by the Spanish, the fort was used by the US Military until 1994 when it turned into a National Park. Today, the park is fully self-sufficient and run by the Presidio Trust. The park features miles of hiking trails, cultural and event centers, restaurants, shopping, offices and a golf course. You can even live at the park by leasing one of the many homes on the property. Learn more here.
After your hike, grab an Uber and head to Tong Kiang for a traditional Dim Sum breakfast. You will be seated at a table and almost immediately servers carrying trays of dumpling and more will come by. To order just take some of whatever comes by! A server will mark a sushi like menu on your table with what they have served you. Eventually, your table will begin to fill up so sometimes you might just need to say no to the next server that comes by. Dim Sum is the best! I loved basically everything I tried and have found a new Dim Sum Spot in Denver (Star Kitchen).
Now that you are totally stuffed, time to grab your bikini (weather permitting) head back through the Presidio to the Crissy Field or Baker Beach.
Foggy, Brisk Day?
Walk off the dumplings by heading to Sacramento Street for shopping. Hike up any cross street on to the top of Pac Hights, enjoy the views and guess who lives in each of these beautiful homes.
One day, when I am wildly successful I will drop $350 on a swimsuit like it ain’t no-thing. Until then, I will happily settle on a copy cat of the amazing Marysia Swim Mott Maillot scalloped one piece.
I fell in love with this swimsuit and last year and am sooooo happy it’s now “in-style” and available at some much more approachable price points. Target, Kate Spade, J.Crew all offer similar scalloped style bikinis and one-pieces for a fraction of the price this season.

I love love love living in Colorado, but nothing is worst than Spring in Colorado. One day it’s 75 and beautiful the next it’s dumping snow. And this freakish weather pattern happens all the way till Memorial Day. March means that freakish weather is on the way… although it’s really already been here. But we have two more months of ski season so right now #prayforsnow.

If you are planning on skiing more than two days in or outside Colorado, your cheapest option for lift tickets is to purchase them in advance! You may find that buying a “pass” is going to be your best option. Liftopia is an awesome site to find great deals on lift tickets and rental equipment.
Epic Pass – Vail Resorts owns basically all the resorts on I-70. So, if you plan on skiing 2x a year or more than four days, you should definitely consider buying a pass. Important to note that you can’t get discounted passes on Liftopia for Epic Resorts aka Vail-owned resorts. Epic also includes Telluride and Crested Butte.
Ikon Pass – What use to be the Rocky Mountain Super Pass and Mountain Collective is now the Ikon Pass, which is basically every Mountain who is not on Epic Pass. Arapahoe Mountain, Winter Park, Copper, Aspen and Eldora.
