I am so excited to introduce my guest blogger Lauren – a dear friend whose personal experience brought her to Beautycounter. I had heard rave reviews about Beautycounter but only after learning more from Lauren was I convinced I need to give these products a shot…
Hi friends ! Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Lauren, a Texan that went on a spur of the moment camping trip with some strangers from Denver (one of them being the lovely, Channing! Lemme tell ya people, this girl KNOWS HER CHEESE). I fell in LOVE with Colorado and decided “Hey I should probably move here”. Which I then did (yay snow!) And a year and a half later I’m living the mountain life fairytale with all these rad humans! Someone pinch me;)
A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with some thyroid issues (yikes, scary). I’m a nurse and yoga instructor, vegetarian and generally consider myself a healthy person so this came as a surprise to my ego. My reaction was, “Wait, me? there’s no way, I’m healthy, I EAT KALE!” So I began incessantly researching everything I can do to cure my thyroid naturally without taking medication. Through this research, I learned that many of the chemicals used in beauty products have been linked to causing cancer and endocrine (which includes thyroid) disorders, hormonal disruptions, learning disabilities and that’s just the beginning!
Over the years, studies have shown a link between ingredients used in personal care products to hormone disruption, cancer, asthma, ADHD, autism, allergies, obesity, memory loss, birth defects, dermatitis and increase skin irritation. These ingredients are in our shampoo, body wash, lotions, face wash, conditioner, deodorant, makeup, etc. Beautycounter is working to change the standard of personal care product industry, an industry that and prides itself on transparency.
Here are three important facts about our personal care product industry that I was shocked to learn…
- According to FDA.gov, “Under the law, cosmetic products and ingredients do not need FDA pre-market approval, with the exception of color additives.”
- The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
- The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11 to date.
Our skin is our largest organ and absorbs 60% of what we put on it directly into our bloodstream and I had been putting these poisons on my skin and therefore into my body EVERY DAY!! YIKES! Not cool Lauren, not.cool. It’s not only what were putting IN our bodies that is important but also what we are putting ON them. I wouldn’t eat a bowl of toxic chemicals so why was I putting this stuff on my skin? Great question.
So began my search to replenish the products I owned with SAFE ones. That’s when a friend from Austin introduced me to Beautycounter ! I tried Beautycounter products, and after waking up the next morning with my skin feeling like velvet (seriously) I was SOLD!
As a nurse & yoga instructor, I have always been passionate teaching others to care and protect themselves, so I decided I wanted to join Beautycounter in their mission; to get SAFER products into the hands of everyone!
My first step was checking Beautycounter “The Never List”, which is a list of toxic ingredients used in all personal care products that Beautycounter vows to never use, to the products I was using. I found anywhere from 2 to 10 potentially harmful ingredients in every product. Thus, I slowly, one by one, started replacing my products and makeup I’d used for decades with safe alternatives.
Download this list here – Check your everyday products and I am sure you will be surprised at what you find!
I can honestly say, my skin has never been more healthy and my friends and I have never loved a makeup line more! We are all such an amazing examples and teachers for a holistic, healthy lifestyle and I would love for you to join me on what Beautycounter is trying to accomplish on a global scale (think big people!!).
Check out my site to learn more about my journey and what Beautycounter products I am loving. Interested in trying something, but scared to commit? We also have a 60-day return policy so if you don’t love our products you can return them.
I’m happy to chat with you more about this movement of skin care safety (or anything else, I love chatting) AND tell you about my favorite products! You can email me at [email protected]
Shine on friends!
XOXO,
Lauren

Such a lovely post recapping a lot of good topics that we all need to know. Good thing I’m no longer eating cheeseburgers and steaks as often as I was, I didn’t know my skin absorbed 60% of it, yikesss! Thanks for sharing! xx adaatude.com
