Archives for March 2013
Wow, this week has been crazy! I am so ready for a ski trip to Vail with some of my closest friends.
This week I volunteered at the Rockies Venture Club’s Angel Capital Summit. Twenty-six startups pitched and received feedback from investors and entrepeneurs. The event was great for networking and learning more about the Boulder/Denver startup scene.
My favorite companies…
TrekPak – creating the best cases for all your photography gear
CampuScene – Because I had a cray cray roommate freshmen year and this app might have prevented that…
Tentiko‘s goals is to create one of a kind experience, I just signed up and can’t wait for my first class, Maybe 3D printing?
WeatherCloud is amazing. WeatherCloud uses sensors on your car to relay road and weather conditions to the cloud then back down to the cars behind you. I will happily add a kit to my car!
Rate Pilot is like Lending Tree but for loans. You can get the full gist on their website but from what I understand, this will totally change the loan process and really help people.
I also really like GeoSales, because every CRM definitely needs it. Dear CRM makers your user interface is TERRIBLE, hire and UX designer and add GeoSales.
Sales this weekend!
Banana Republic 30% off everything with code BR48HOUR // 30% off new arrivals at TOBI // Select styles at Steve Madden are 40% off // If you haven’t already join Gilt Group and HauteLook for incredible savings on your favorite brands!
I would love to add this Conde Nast Travelers book to my collection
I have been dreaming of this ti-die top for a while, there is just something about it that just screams Channing! right?
Besides the fact that its blue, I love desk organization and this would fit perfect on my desk.
Summer Tans arn’t to far away, but its better to fake it! I love this coral and bronzer duo from Nars.
A friend sent along this wonderful interview from Jambands.com with Galadrielle Allman, Duane Allman’s Daughter. They discuss his life, legacy and the brand new Allman Brothers box set Sky Dog. You can read the interview here. The quote above is from Duane’s diary written 2 years before his death at age 24. The words really resonate with me, and I hope to live by them.
I asked my oldest brother for The Allman Brother’s C.D. A Decade of Hits 69-79 for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. I have been a huge fan ever since. Oddly enough the first track on the album “Statesboro Blues”, now a favorite, was my least favorite song. I think I disliked it so much because it was live, and when your thirteen live recordings sounded weird and harsh to teeny-bopper ears. Instead, I listened to “Blue Sky” on repeat and played air guitar in my room. To this day it is my hands down favorite song of all time. This album turned me on to so much great classic rock and really shaped my musical taste, so thanks Spence!
I recommend watching this in full screen, with the volume up
Isn’t this video amazing! I would love to explore the Canadian Rockys and see the Northern Lights. Lucky for me, I have all of Colorado to explore. My spring and summer are starting to get packed with concerts (Yahoo Phish Announced Tour) and weddings. I know every free weekend will be spent in the mountains. I hope to add a few more 14’ers to the list (read about my first one here), learn to fly fish and go whitewater rafting. But I am trying not to get to ahead of myself. I still need a job… resume here 🙂
What are your plans for the weekend? Celebrating St. Paddy’s Day – I sure hope you are!
– I heard a really interesting piece on NPR this week about the store Zara and the Founder Amancio Ortega, you know the 3rd richest man in the world… NPR also did a piece on “Fast Fashion” like H&M and Forever 21, totally worth the read or listen.
– Spring is just around the corner! How do I know? Pinterest, duh. Sun dresses, sandals and bathing suits are now every other pin. Check out my Spring Style board for inspiration!
– Over the past 3 months I have been checking off my “to learn list” with classes like InDesign, HTML, UX design and even Google Adwords. All the things I wanted to learn, but never had the time for. If you have a “to learn list” or maybe a Pinterest full of DYI projects or a new recipes, stop thinking about it and try it! You wont regret doing it, trust me.
For Design/Tech classes in the Boulder/Denver area checkout Visual Persuasion Classes and the Boulder Digital Arts for great classes on a variety of topic. Out of state. try Ledet or ONLC. However, my new favorite is Dabble, a great startup based in Denver and Chicago where you can learn anything, but more on that next week!
– My besties Ashley, over at the Yuppie Hustle, is headed to Haiti to check kids eye site and fit them with proper glasses. Why does children’s eyesight matter? Because 80% of what children learn comes through their eyes. Help Ashley in her trip by purchasing one of these awesome t-shirts she designed. Learn more here.

Is it weird that I find joy in looking at other peoples iPhone just to see what apps are on their home screen? Yes? Well, I think its fun to learn about new apps an introduce others to the ones I cannot do without. Here is my must have app list plus a few more. Want more? I also have a board of my favorite tech on Pinterest “Must Use Tech”
