When I was contacted by Dream Dinners I was instantly curious to learn what they were all about. Founded in by 2002 by Tina Kuna and Stephanie Allen, Dream Dinners is an easy, fast and cheap way to prepare dinner. Or in my case, work lunches and dinners. I was invited to the super convenient Wheat Ridge location to test out Dream Dinners for myself.
Here’s the gist…Dream Dinners takes the hassle and annoyance out of going to the grocery store and deciding what’s for dinner. Just pick out your meals, assemble them in-store and freeze at home. Now you have a months worth of food ready to cook with simple instructions most taking under 30 minutes.
Before my allotted time I picked out my 6 dinners. I was given a choice of 15 recipes to choose from, which was super hard. Loaded BBQ Pulled Pork Bites, Cheese Lovers Manicotti and Turkey Burgers with Pretzel Buns – YES PLEASE.
Upon arrival, I was offered a glass of wine and a cute apron. I was guided through the process of assembling my meals and given helpful tips along the way. Each station is set up with all you ingredients you need and an ingenious measuring method to make sure you get the recipe right. Each meal fits in a gallon bag and is accompanied by cooking instructions. Once you finish a meal you add it to your freezer shelf for safe keeping till you are ready to go.
I assembled 6 meals of 3 serving each in less than an hour. I am literally set for meals for the next month all for under $80 (at the introductory rate)!!! During the entire process, I kept thinking to myself…
This is so EASY! Why isn’t everyone doing this! What are they making over there? I want that! How is this so affordable?! I am gonna have food for a month! Wait how has it only been 30 minutes!
Literally I had such a great experience, everyone was super fun, friendly and helpful. Probably the weirdest, but best part was there was no clean up! If you make a mess assembling the meals don’t worry about it! It felt odd to walk away from my Peanut Butter Penne Chicken station with it covered in soy sauce but by the time I turned around from adding my meal to the freezer it was already cleaned up.
Typically, you choose a combination of meals, 3 to 6 servings each, for a grand total of 36‐serving. The next group of meals will run me about $232 but it breaks down to an average cost of $6.23 per serving. That is insane! I could spend $232 in a single trip to the grocery store or a few dinners out and lunch at work.
Last night before bed I put my Peanut Butter Penne Chicken in the fridge to thaw. Tonight, in less than 15 minutes I had a delicious meal prepared with plenty of leftovers for lunch! You wanna know the best part? Most Dream Dinners are under 350 calories per serving. Amazeballs.
Since I am cooking for one, 36 servings can last me a while. Therefore I don’t need to schedule to come in every month. I plan to go every other month. I am most excited to have these healthy and easy meals on hand when my summer travel keeps me so busy I dont have time to go to the grocery store.
I really can’t say enough good things about my experience at Dream Dinners Wheat Ridge. I look forward to going back in April to prepare my meals for the summer!
