In between back to back wedding weekends in Atlanta I have set up shop at our family home on Lake Burton. In between conference calls and emails I am trying to get as much sun as possible! On Monday, my mom and I ventured into Clayton to try her favorite new spot in town, The Laurel Bar at The White Burch Inn. Since it was a Monday we practically had the place to ourselves. Inn owners Chuck & Brenda Patterson, architect and interior designer duo, outdid themselves with the design and decor of the Inn. Bought in 2012, the pair transformed this 100-year-old building into a 6 bedroom Inn, complete with workout room and communal sitting area. Each room is unique in design and color scheme with beautiful pieces from local artist. I love all the woodwork and details in the bathrooms.
After our tour of the Inn, we sipped wine at the bar with hilarious bartender Ginger and enjoyed dinner on the patio. Our meal was delicious! We both started with the refreshing and light Peach Salad. Followed by Smoked Trout Cakes, Pan Seared Sea Scallops and Shrimp & Grits. For dessert homemade Salted Caramel Coffee ice cream. My favorite was the Smoked Trout Cakes with Beet Risotto. Chef Ben Findley is a Clayton native, whose talent was nurtured at local favorite Lake Rabun Hotel. Be sure to stop in The Laurel Bar on your next trip to North Georgia!
